Maps

Updated: 2026-05-06

MeOS can import a map at the same time as you import courses from a file format that includes the coordinates of the controls (for example, the IOF-XML format). Select import from file on the page courses. Select import map image and select the image file and an associated world file that georeferences the map, i.e. locates it on the globe.
MeOS Insight
You can also add the map afterwards by adding a map under functions on the page courses. If you do not have a world file for your map, you can manually locate the map by placing a couple of controls manually.
The map must be exported to a PNG image file with a reasonable resolution to be readable on the screen. Unnecessarily high resolution (for printing) does not provide any advantage. MeOS supports world files with the coordinate projection expressed in UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) or not projected directly in longitude, latitude. MeOS automatically determines the zone (for UTM) from the coordinates of the controls.

Using the map

On the page Competitors there is a button Show Missing Punch. It shows a map with the control that is missing, and possibly a control that was incorrectly visited instead.

On the page Controls, when you have selected a control, you can click Map. The control is displayed in a small map image and an outlined overview image shows where on the map the control is located.

On the page SportIdent, quick entry. The Show Map button shows the current course in a separate window. You can use it to show the difficulty level of the courses when registering directly.
Hint
Use a separate screen directed towards the competitor, and move the map window there.
On the courses page, you can similarly display any course using the Map button.
